Great tutorial on how to untangle UVs in complex scenes under Maya. However, some of this may be inconsequential as Maya 2008 has an automated UV untangle mode called "Create UVs -> Automatic Mapping" available in the Polygons menu.
Still a great tutorial for manually untangling special cases.
